The brief
What the owners asked for
The owners had a cramped 1980s bathroom, a separate dressing room and a hall closet that nobody could reach. They wanted one suite, and they wanted it to feel like the quietest room in the house.
We removed the partition between the bathroom and the dressing room, borrowed the closet for a water closet with its own exhaust, and put the tub and shower behind one plane of low-iron glass.
The onyx wall is a single block, book-matched and backlit from a ventilated cavity. It is the only bright surface in the room when the night scene is running.

The scope
What we actually did
- Removed one non-load-bearing partition and reframed the suite as a single room
- Relocated the toilet into the former hall closet with a dedicated inline exhaust
- Built a wet room with a linear drain, curbless entry and a 9 ft glass plane
- Set a book-matched backlit onyx feature wall behind a cast stone freestanding tub
- Shop-built rift white oak double vanity with recessed mirror cabinets
- Four-scene lighting on a keypad, heated honed limestone floor throughout
We stopped using the guest bath the week it was finished. The night scene is the reason we go upstairs early.
