The brief
What the owners asked for
The existing bathroom split a narrow room into two small wet zones with a strip of floor between them. Neither was comfortable and both leaked.
We combined them. One wet zone now runs the full width of the room, with a soaking tub at the window end and the shower at the plumbing wall.
Steam meant a full-height glass screen, a sloped ceiling section to shed condensation, and a sealed door. The exhaust runs on a humidity sensor with a ten-minute overrun.

The scope
What we actually did
- Demolished both wet zones back to joists and corrected a failed shower pan
- Sistered joists to gain slope depth for a curbless single-fall floor
- Installed a steam generator with a sloped ceiling detail and sealed enclosure
- Set fluted low-iron glass screen with a blackened steel frame
- Teak bench and matching duckboard detail at the tub end
- Humidity-sensing inline exhaust with overrun timer
The steam was the indulgence. The thing I actually use every day is the bench.
