The brief
What the owners asked for
A pied-a-terre powder room with a builder-grade pedestal sink, a downlight and beige tile. The owners entertain, and this is the one room guests see.
We stripped it, furred the plumbing wall for a concealed cistern, and clad the basin wall in a single piece of green quartzite with a mitred return onto the side wall.
Everything else disappeared: wall-hung basin, blackened brass hardware, two sconces at face height on a dimmer.

The scope
What we actually did
- Furred the plumbing wall for an in-wall carrier and concealed cistern
- Clad the basin wall in one quartzite slab with a mitred corner return
- Hung a stone-topped floating basin with concealed brackets
- Installed paired hand-blown sconces at face height on a dimmer
- Replaced the fan with a quiet inline unit ducted to the riser
- Blackened brass hardware throughout, including hooks and paper holder
Guests ask about the stone before they ask about the view. In a 31st floor apartment that is saying something.
